If you are familiar with regular fiberglass fishing rods, then you probably have a certain "feel" for casting and playing a fish. These rods will work, but be aware that the "feel" for casting is very different and takes some practice and getting used to. The same goes for playing a fish once it is on the line.

The rod is very well made and seems likely to be almost indestructible. However, if you don't need a small, short rod for backpacking etc -- for the money you can buy three or four inexpensive rods in the 5-6 foot range, or for less than half the price look at the collapsible travel rod and reel kits like Daiwa or Shakespeare.

Also, notice that you have to estimate the size fish you are going for to estimate the number of "coils" to purchase. These change the amount of "give" in the system.

We have yet to feel comfortable using these rods after several outings.
